Beyond the ordinary

MARINE CONSERVATION EXPERIENCE AND A VACATION ROLLED INTO ONE

Dive on one of the most amazing reef complexes in the world while contributing to marine research. Instead of going on a trip to work full time, enjoy this combination program of volunteering and a vacation!

What to expect from the Internship

Your journey begins any Friday of the month. From the moment you arrive in Sodwana Bay, you’re stepping into the adventure of a lifetime.

Saturday: The Arrival

Saturday is all about settling in. You’ll get a full orientation to the camp and town, meet your new Sodwana family and soak up the laid-back coastal vibes.

Sunday: The Pool

On Sunday, it’s time to dive in. Whether you’re beginning your PADI Open Water course or refreshing your skills, you’ll hit the pool and prepare for the ocean dives ahead.

Week One: The Launch

Your first week kicks off the mission. Over three action-packed days, you’ll complete your Open Water certification and be ready to explore the reefs. Already certified? Jump straight into research dives with the team.

The Mission: Marine Research

As a certified diver, you’ll be in the water five days a week contributing to our Nudibranch monitoring project. You'll collect photographic data, help track Sodwana’s reef biodiversity and play a vital part in protecting this ecosystem from the impacts of climate change.

The Theory: Marine Lectures

The learning doesn’t stop underwater. Our casual Marine Lectures give you a deeper understanding of ocean ecosystems. You'll earn a certificate at the end of the block to add to your CV or future studies.

The Balance: Off-Days

We believe in balance. Each week includes two off-days: one for exciting local excursions and one to relax, reflect and recharge for the week ahead.

This is more than a volunteer program. It’s a chance to gain real marine science experience, become a confident diver and make a difference while living on one of the most rugged and beautiful coastlines in the world.
