Beyond the ordinary

MARINE CONSERVATION EXPERIENCE AND A VACATION ROLLED INTO ONE

Dive on one of the most amazing reef complexes in the world while contributing to marine research. Instead of going on a trip to work full time, enjoy this combination program of volunteering and a vacation!

Our program starts on any Friday of the month, welcoming you to our little slice of paradise in Sodwana Bay. From the moment you arrive, you're stepping into the adventure of a lifetime.

Saturday is all about settling in. You’ll get a full orientation to the camp and town, meet your new Sodwana family and soak up the laid-back coastal vibes.

On Sunday, it’s time to dive in, literally. Whether you’re beginning your PADI Open Water course or refreshing your skills, you’ll hit the pool and prepare for the underwater magic to come.

Your first week kicks off your diving journey. Over just three action-packed days, you’ll complete your Open Water certification and be ready to explore our incredible reefs. Already certified? Jump straight into research dives with the team.

As a certified diver, you’ll dive five days a week, contributing to our Nudibranch monitoring project. You'll collect photographic data, help track Sodwana’s reef biodiversity and play a part in protecting this unique ecosystem from the impacts of climate change.

But the learning doesn’t stop underwater. Our casual Marine Lectures give you a deeper understanding of ocean ecosystems, with a certificate to take home at the end. It's perfect for your CV or future studies.

And yes, we believe in balance. Each week includes two off-days: one for exciting local excursions, and one to relax, reflect and recharge for the week ahead.

This is more than just a volunteer program. It’s a chance to gain real marine science experience, become a confident diver and make a difference, all while living on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.
